ISOFLURANE VERSUS HALOTHANE Physical properties of Isoflurane compared to Halothane

چکیده
Isoflurane is a haloginated ether, is stable when stored and is presented as 99.9% pure product. The absence of a preservative make vaporisation more efficient and it is very unlikely that moving parts of the vaporiser will stick. The physical properties of isoflurane are similar to those of halothane. The minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane in the different target species is detailed in Table 1.

Comparison of isoflurane and halothane in outpatient paediatric dental anaesthesia.
Isoflurane was compared with halothane as the sole supplement to anaesthesia with nitrous oxide and oxygen for outpatient dental extractions in 80 children. Induction and maintenance of anaesthesia were satisfactory with both agents, although there was a higher incidence of coughing, salivation and laryngospasm in the group receiving isoflurane. However, in contrast to predictions from the phys...
متن کاملInduction and recovery characteristics of isoflurane and halothane anaesthesia for short outpatient operations in children.
Induction and recovery characteristics of isoflurane anaesthesia were compared with halothane anaesthesia during outpatient myringotomy and placement of Sheely ventilation tubes in 101 unpremedicated children. Compared with halothane, isoflurane resulted in prolonged induction times and inferior induction scores due to increased salivation, coughing, breathholding and laryngospasm. However, whe...
متن کاملUptake of halothane and isoflurane by mother and baby during caesarean section.
Twenty-three patients undergoing Caesarean section received either 0.5% halothane or 0.8% isoflurane to supplement nitrous oxide-oxygen anaesthesia. We studied the rate of uptake of the agents by the mother and fetus by measuring partial pressures in maternal arterial (Pa) and fetal umbilical venous (Puv) blood. Mean induction-delivery interval did not differ between the halothane (10.8 min) an...
متن کاملThe Bispectral Index in children: comparing isoflurane and halothane.
BACKGROUND The Bispectral Index (BIS) has been calibrated for several general anaesthetic agents including isoflurane. Halothane is still used in paediatric anaesthesia. Compared with other volatile anaesthetics, halothane has a different receptor affinity and differing effects on the EEG. There are limited data evaluating the BIS with halothane. We set out to compare the BIS using halothane an...
متن کاملHemodynamic alterations and regional myocardial blood flow during supraceliac aortic occlusion in dogs with a critical coronary stenosis.
The hemodynamic consequences and myocardial blood flow alterations associated with cross-clamping of the thoracic aorta were studied during pentobarbital (control), halothane (1 MAC), and isoflurane (1 MAC) anesthesia in dogs with a critical stenosis of the left circumflex coronary artery. Aortic clamping at the level of the diaphragm resulted in significant and equivalent increases in mean aor...
